I have been busy with the 2021 annual recommendation recently, so there have been fewer posts recommending new songs. In addition, I have a lot of songs that I haven’t written from the end of last year, so I took advantage of some free time to write this song. I chose the latest single "Thank You for Your Hard Work" from Joey Yung’s latest album "Schrodinger's Cat".

There was a time when I was somewhat resistant to listening to and writing Joey Yung’s songs, especially after Hong Kong has been through so many things in recent years. This singer who has already “looked north to China” has slowly shifted her work focus to mainland China. He was the singer who inspired me the most. His many classic works were an indispensable part of my growth stage. He can also be said to be an idol who opened my eyes to Cantonese songs. What I admire most about him is that he always takes every performance seriously, from small music programs on TV to big concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, he always gives his all, so there are rarely any mistakes in his live performances over the past 20 years. Two years ago, he held his 20th anniversary concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Hins Cheung also revealed that the amount of effort he put into preparing for the concert was far beyond imagination, and we did see that he performed for 13 consecutive days without any "bad voice" or misfires. As a performer, I think he is a very professional singer who respects his fans very much.

This song "Thank You for Your Hard Work" can be said to be Joey Yung's confession, and the lyrics written by Xu Hongyi may be her feelings after 22 years of debut, such as "I am determined to live up to the expectations of those around me", "I have never wanted to disappoint others since I was a child", "I have tried to feel my existence through their eyes", "I have been striving to become a great person since the day I was born", etc. Joey Yung has been shaped into a music queen with seriousness and professionalism, but there are actually many hardships in the process that people cannot see. Just as he said at the end of the song that he needed to say "thank you for your hard work" to himself in the mirror, he hopes he can just be himself and be lazy.

In addition to the lyrics, I also like Ho Ping-shun's arrangement, which uses a lot of instrumental accompaniment to create the atmosphere of the song. Although it is not very complicated, it has a grand feeling that matches the song well. Of course, Joey Yung's usual stable and natural performance also adds a lot of points to this song. Moreover, since this song can be said to be her self-confession, there is a kind of sincerity hidden in her voice, which is a feeling rarely heard since "Pessimistic Biology". The MV also presents various scenes from the 22 years since their debut, which is even more touching.

In fact, sometimes listening to songs is very simple. Use the purest intuition to feel the song, and you may feel a long-lost feeling of being moved.
