THE COMPLETE ALBUM - 180g VIRGIN VINYL - LIMITED EDITION. Jazz: Red Hot and Cool is the Dave Brubeck Quartet's live album recorded during one 1954 and two 1955 performances at the Basin Street East club in New York. Released originally in 1955, the album was remastered and reissued in 2001, with two added tracks not included on the original album.
This album presents Dave Brubeck's first regular quartet featuring bassist Bob Bates and drummer Joe Dodge, later replaced by bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello - a more experimental ensemble and the classic Brubeck Quartet.
As a result of the complex Brubeck chords and the remarkably cool tone of Desmond's saxophone, relaxing and calming, Bates and Dodge focus on giving a swinging but solid and quiet accompaniment to the quartet, without disrupting the expansive flow of ideas between the pianist and the altoist.
