British cellist Jacqueline du Pré, who was described by the New York Times as "born to play the cello," died of illness on October 19 , 1987 at the age of only 42. Her performing career lasted only about twelve years, and her recording career less than ten years. He once shone brightly on the stage, but then disappeared like a comet. Generally speaking, such performers are easily forgotten by music lovers over time. However, her husband Daniel Barenboim once said: "...of all the great musicians I have met, none has ever treated music as a form of natural expression as she did." The free, unrestrained, straightforward, profound, yet spontaneous music, as well as the dramatic tragedy that ended her career at its peak, are all reasons why du Pré's name is difficult to erase from the minds of music lovers.
Du Pré was born in Oxford, England in 1945. She started learning cello at the age of five and officially performed on the concert stage at the age of sixteen. The following year, the 17-year-old Du Pré became famous overnight for replacing her senior master Ross who was absent for some reason. Although Du Pré's albums are not numerous, they cover almost all important cello concertos, as well as chamber music by Beethoven and Brahms.
This LP album features a selection of recordings of Du Pré's concertos in which she sang with her life, including the Elgar Cello Concerto, which has almost become synonymous with her. The master tapes were re-mastered in 24-bit/96kHz at the famous Abbey Road Studios in the UK.
