"Luck and Strange" is the fifth new album released this year by British singer-songwriter and guitarist David Gilmour.
Executive produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew. Gilmour said: "Andrew made him let go of the burden of being a member of Pink Floyd and create music from a new perspective." Gilmour's writer wife Polly Samson was responsible for writing most of the lyrics, focusing on themes of mortality and old age. Other family members also participated in writing some of the lyrics, playing instruments and singing along.
The album includes eight new songs and one cover song, including three singles "The Piper's Call", "Dark and Velvet Nights" and "Between Two Points" (a cover of a song by British band The Montgolfier Brothers). In addition, former Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright also participated in the improvisational recording of the theme song "Luck and Strange".
Gilmour felt the album was his best work since Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973).
