"American Idiot" was released by Green Day, the "godfather of punk rock" in 2004. Since it was during the Iraq War, the theme of the album was anti-war. It topped the US Billboard album chart as soon as it was released. The cover features a picture of a person holding a red heart-shaped grenade, expressing anti-war sentiment. The album received eight nominations at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards and took home seven awards: Best Music Video of the Year, Best Rock Video, Best Directing, Best Editing, Best Cinematic Art, Audience Choice Award, and Favorite Album. The album also won the 2006 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
