Album background: "72 SEASONS" is Metallica's 12th studio album, released on April 14, 2023. The album, produced by Greg Fidelman with Hetfield and Ulrich, runs for over 77 minutes and is their first new studio album since 2016's Hardwired...To Self-Destruct. James Hetfield explains the concept of the album title: "72 seasons. Our 18th year of life, forming our true or false self. The concept of "who we are" we are told by our parents. This may fix our personality within a certain framework. Our continued examination of these core beliefs and how they affect our perception of the world today. Our adult experiences are often a re-enactment or reaction to these childhood experiences, whether to be captive to childhood constraints or to break these constraints."
