Album background: The debut album "PLUS ULTRA" released by Brighton four-piece Chappaqua Wrestling was released on April 14, 2023. For Chappaqua Wrestling, the political voice expressed on this album has been a long time in the making. Woods and Mac have been making music together since they were 14, bonding over their love of 2000s indie bands like Foals and The Maccabees, but they didn’t form Chappaqua Wrestling until their late teens, when they were influenced by shoegaze pioneers like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Every time The Clash is mentioned, Woods and Mac apologize for ever mentioning their influence again. Although Mac thought the legendary band was pro-war as a child, The Clash used music as a vehicle for political dialogue, which is fully reflected in PLUS ULTRA.
