Namewee's eleventh new album "Weenomenon"
In recent years, the trend of slash has been very popular. After the music genius Huang Mingzhi has crossed over many identities such as creator, singer, producer, actor, film director, screenwriter, host, film producer, etc., he is still unwilling to end the endless slash cycle and decided to slash a new identity that no one would expect: "Weenomenon leader"
"Weenomenon" comes from the fact that when Namewee's song "Glass Heart" became popular, netizens suggested adding Wee, which represents Namewee, and Phenomenon, which is the English word for phenomenon, to form a new word "Weenomenon". This single word symbolizes the global phenomenon in which Namewee constantly uses music and art to challenge issues such as so-called inequality, restrictions on speech and even human rights persecution, triggering creators around the world to rise up and fight for freedom of creation and freedom of speech. It is precisely this kind of time and space background that made many creators respond to Huang Mingzhi’s call, pursue Huang Mingzhi’s thoughts, and shout: "We are all Huang Mingzhi." It’s like a team led by Namewee, followed by a group of people who are determined to defend free creation to the death, taking Namewee’s thoughts as their dogma and his words as their refuge, firmly believing that as long as they have the concept of free creation in their hearts: we are all Namewee.
Born in Malaysia, a country with quite conservative politics and customs, Namewee, who insisted on free creation when the government suppressed freedom of speech with an authoritarian system, naturally became the target of public criticism. He had been investigated, detained, arrested and imprisoned by the Malaysian police for various controversial speech, but each time he was vindicated and received greater support. A film he had shot was considered controversial and almost could not be released, but after its release it broke the box office record in Malaysia. Countless of his works have been suppressed, banned, his account blocked, his YouTube account stolen by hackers, and other shocking incidents, but he has never given up the doctrine of free creation. It is this persistence that eventually made him one of the top ten outstanding young people in Malaysia. In addition to winning numerous awards around the world, he has also become an alternative hero in the hearts of many people who pursue freedom.
This album contains Namewee's experiences in music and life over the years, ranging from his reflections on life, love between men and women, brotherhood, religious concepts, talks about life and death, or songs sung in his native Malay language. It can be said to be a collection of Namewee's musical creations. From ballads to reggae music, Namewee has always adhered to the idea of free creation. In this album, he put in various musical elements that he felt every second and every moment, constantly challenging himself and creating this unique album that is like the scripture Weenomenon.
For many years, Namewee has continued to speak out through various forms of creation, from music, MVs to movies, hoping to inspire thousands of creators to follow Namewee's call and express their voices freely and fearlessly. This is another important step forward for the world’s creative freedom.
As long as you have a heart that is willing to defend freedom to the death, you will always be a part of Weenomenon.
