≡ After two years of hard work, I created ten songs about the realities of growing up.
It has been 11 years since the release of her last official album "Being Opposite". Lin Yixin is still sharing music in her own way. She has continued to release several singles and many cover videos on Youtube. After releasing the EP "Never Thought About It" in 2020, the ongoing epidemic has caused the whole world to move forward at a slow pace. During this period of silence, Lin Yixin reorganized his life and creation at his own pace. In the second half of 2023, Lin Yixin officially restarted her music plan and released her new original album "Falling" on August 29.
Many regrets or farewells in life cannot be rehearsed in advance. The ten songs in Lin Yixin's new album "Falling" tell many sad life fragments around her. She deeply understands how strong the physical perception of reality is when you grow up, and how powerlessness will make people fall straight down. Therefore, as the producer of this album, Lin Yixin also deliberately matched most of the stories with light and bright arrangements, including rock, classical, clarinet, and string elements. This album is her experience of falling into another world, and the music keeps guiding her to the exit. Perhaps many times we are all Alice falling, and we just fall into a strange rabbit hole for a while. As long as we are honest with ourselves, there will be some power to take you on.

〈Go for a walk〉——These daily little things are waiting for your sunny day
The album's title song "Go Out for a Walk" was written by Lin Yixin when she was accompanying her sleeping relative's bedside. It is a one-sided conversation about "waiting". It should have been a day of increasing anxiety as the waiting progressed, but in Lin Yixin's three-beat music, a sunny and windy weather could be heard, as if it was the most suitable weather for going out for a walk. The arrangement also creates contrast, deliberately making the everyday scenery vivid, like the happiness of dancing a waltz for two.
〈Falling〉——We are all Alice falling, falling into a strange rabbit hole
The album's title song "Falling" abandons the past signature smile, removes unnecessary positive thinking, and looks more deeply into our inner world through music. "Falling" deliberately uses a lyrical rock style to reflect this state of mind. The arrangement starts with simple instrumentation, and the rhythm becomes heavier as the emotions gradually rise. Combined with the intensity of the rock music that runs all the way, it takes us who are falling to escape from the opposite world surrounded by regrets.
Memory of the Wind - There is no absolute possession or loss in life, I hope you remember only the good things
A song written from the perspective of a person with dementia, for whom memory is often like a gust of wind that blows away. Lin Yixin has been accompanying her sick aunt for many years. From her words, she learned about her childhood and her longing for home, and then she wrote a song about the world of her memories. The piano accompaniment and moving string music bring back long-lost and precious memories as my family and I spend time with my aunt.
"If You Are the Same" - It's OK if You Want to Let Go
This song was created ten years ago and released ten years later. It is the Easter egg that Lin Yixin secretly hid in her new album. She has been chasing her "dream", but also "learning and growing up" in the process. Now she is walking on a life path where everything is not just dreams. Listening to "If You Are The Same" again many years later, Lin Yixin was encouraged by her brave dream-chasing self at that time, and gained a lot of strength from it - there are many things in life that you want to cherish more, and there are also many things that you have to learn to let go of after trying them. If you are tired, take a break and call a pause to let yourself calm down.
〈Make a Plan〉——Relearning the meaning of giving up, about my escape plan
The song tells of a virtual escape plan. In an era of heavy internet use, one uses the "you" on social media to maintain the illusion that one is living a good life, posting messages on your behalf to report safety on a regular basis, and even entertaining everyone, giving the real self a break. Arranged by Lin Yixin and long-term musicians, the band sound style has a bit of passion, like the atmosphere of "setting off" with the sun.
"Gray Rainbow" - The rainbow has always been there, but the color is covered by darkness
It is the first time that I have tried to publish my own violin performance in the album. "Gray Rainbow" begins with a sad minor key, gradually entering the central vortex of chaos and low tide, allowing the heart and thoughts to settle and calm down, and finally turns to a major key to continue the hope and power of the music, just like a rainbow appearing after the darkness. For Lin Yixin, the violin is the most important thing in her life. However, this is the first time she has released a performance. Now she can finally say with ease, "I love playing the violin and have always existed for it."
"Boring Adults" - Life is about letting go, I am bored and I am proud
This is an electric rock song that Lin Yixin tried in the album. The electronic sound of the synthesizer makes the song fresh and bright, presenting a comfortable state of ease. "Boring adults" may seem like a negative word, but it contains the ease and comfort of pursuing one's true self. It can be said to be a song about Lin Yixin's "becoming an adult". Re-understanding the "important things in life" makes her feel truly grown up. At this stage, Lin Yixin can even say loudly, "I'm bored and I'm proud." Life is always a matter of thought. Sometimes we just need a reversal of our drifting with the flow, just like the song "Boring Adults".
〈Including〉——Life includes regrets, and regrets include that I have grown up while you are getting old
The song tells about the various "regrets" in life. Loved ones fall ill one after another, and watching them gradually lose their senses and ability to move, Lin Yixin can only write sadness into songs. "Including" is the first completed song in the new album, like the start button of the entire album. Lin Yixin said that everything originated from the encouragement and support of director Huang Zhongping. After listening to the song "Including", director Zhongping immediately agreed to take on the MV and use the perspective of a documentary to make the meaning of the song more complete. Several unpopular and rare chords were deliberately designed in the arrangement. In order to make the emotions reach a fuller state, the clarinet was specially used in the interlude to vent the feelings of waiting and loneliness in the song one by one.
"Go to Sleep" - The moment of farewell in life can never be rehearsed
This song "Go to Sleep" was written by Lin Yixin for the cat who passed away last year. The cat was delivered by Lin Yixin herself 13 years ago. He accompanied her all the way from entering the industry, releasing albums, moving three times, and filming several dramas. They accompanied each other in important moments of life. Lin Yixin said that she had always wanted to write a song for him, but she didn't dare to write it until half a year later. The whole song consists of piano, strings and clarinet, immersed in the sad atmosphere of farewell. In order to capture the emotion of the song, the whole song was constantly tuned during the recording process. In the end, it was decided not to use the 440 pitch of general pop music, but to use the 442 pitch of classical music to make the song present a more transparent and pure longing.
