The Ghent International Film Festival in Belgium presents the World Soundtrack Awards every October to honor outstanding film music workers of the year. The film score giant Silva Screen invited the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra to record this album to celebrate Japanese film score master Ryuichi Sakamoto's receipt of the Lifetime Achievement Award that year.
As a composer, performer, producer and environmentalist, few artists have such a rich experience and fan base as Ryuichi Sakamoto. His musical range is extremely broad, from experimental rock with the synthesizer band Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). to producing classical music, a series of minimalist ambient music, and more than 30 film scores. His work has received a variety of accolades, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, a Grammy Award, and more.
This album includes Ryuichi Sakamoto and David. The theme song of "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" co-starring with David Bowie, as well as classic works such as Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor", "Little Buddha", Almodovar's "High Heels", Alejandro's "Crossfire" and "The Bourne Legacy".
