Memoirs Of a Geisha is a 2005 American epic drama film directed by Rob Marshall, produced by Steven Spielberg, and adapted by Robin Swicord from Arthur Golden's novel of the same name. Set in Kyoto, Japan during World War II, the film tells the story of the growth and life of the geisha Sayuri, played by Zhang Ziyi. The original film score was composed and conducted by the famous composer John Williams, and famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman were invited to perform as guests.
It has won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music.
